In January, volunteers from the LPMN spoke with two groups of high
school students about libertarianism and the Libertarian Party.

One volunteer spoke with approximately 30 juniors and seniors at
Glencoe Silver Lake High School in Glencoe.
The social studies class assignment featured speakers from the
Libertarian, Constitution, Republican, Democratic, and Green
Parties, with each student deciding afterward which party they
wanted to write about. In the Libertarian presentation, students
learned of our focus on personal and economic liberty, how the
government has become far too large with too many laws, our goal of
bringing the US military home from dozens of foreign countries, how
free trade is key to sustainable international peace, our support
for the freewill of consenting adults, and why those convicted of
victimless “crimes” such as marijuana use should be exonerated.

Two volunteers spoke with 14 sophomores in Michelle Griep‘s civics class
for homeschool students in Eden Prairie, a Twin Cities suburb. The
presentation was about the Libertarian Party and our views on the
issues, including time for questions and answers. Students were
introduced to the four-quadrant political spectrum showing how libertarians
differ from liberals and conservatives. Discussions touched on the
history of libertarianism, how the Constitution was intended to
restrict the power of government, how libertarians grapple with the
divisive issue of abortion, how important areas such as roads and
justice could be provided by the marketplace without government,
why “Obamacare” was just another step in a decades-long expansion
of government interference in healthcare, and how countries with
genuine free markets enjoy almost shockingly low costs for healthcare.

The LPMN would like to thank those teachers who gave their students
the opportunity to consider a different perspective, beyond the
usual political establishment. We’d also like to thank our
volunteers for taking personal time for this outreach, on these and
other occasions. Finally, we thank our members and donors for
helping to make the LPMN a focal point for those wishing to learn
more about the benefits of liberty.

Concerned about the relentless expansion of government control
and the erosion of individual liberty? Consider joining and becoming
active in the Libertarian Party of Minnesota. Libertarians stand
in support of liberty on all issues, all the time. Libertarianism
is a philosophical and political movement promoting individual
freedom, voluntary interaction, genuine free markets, and
peace.
