May 9, 2014

If you have not heard already, we nominated three great candidates for statewide office at our convention a couple weeks back! Please take a moment and visit our 2014 candidates page to learn more about Chris Holbrook for Governor/Chris Dock for Lt. Governor, Heather Johnson for U.S. Senate, and Keegan Iversen for State Auditor. These three have agreed to step forth and brandish the Libertarian flag to the people of Minnesota this election season. But they can’t do it alone.

The next step requires that our candidates jump thru a few hoops that the Democrats and Republican majorities have laid. Which means being forced to pay a petitioning “tax” to even get their names on the ballot this November.

This is where you come in. Between May 20th and June 3rd we need volunteers to help us get at least 20 signatures per candidate. It’s really easy; because you can just have 20 people you know sign the petitions. They could include you, your spouse, family and friends, neighbors, coworkers, even the buddies you hang out with at the bar on weekends. This is not hard, and anyone that gives it a honest attempt, will get 20 signatures. There is no ‘someone else’ that will do this, so please lend us a hand.

And here’s is a tip that will make this even easier! It’s called “petition stacking”. When you are gathering signatures from friends, family and neighbors, make sure to bring all 3 candidate forms with you to each person. Each person can sign each candidates’ petition once. This will greatly reduce the amount of effort.

So please, go right now and make a signature pledge at: https://www.lpmn.org/take-action/volunteer/

When you signup and pledge, we’ll mail you the petition forms for all 3 candidates. We’re mailing them because there are special rules like the type of paper and using the proper form so that the signatures count. Please review these important petitioning instructions here before you start collecting signatures!

Ahead of May 20th, we’ll be hosting petition training sessions where you can meet like-minded individuals and learn how to be an effective petitioner. And on May 20th to kick off petitioning, we’ll be hosting a petition signing party at Club Jager, where you can meet the candidates, sign the petitions, and get the forms in person, all while enjoying the great company of like-minded libertarians!

If you need more petition forms or have any questions, don’t hesitate to contact me at andy.burns@lpmn.org or at 763-528-5163. By helping us with this project, you’ll play a vital role in the rise of the libertarian movement and give people the much needed option to, “Vote Libertarian”.
