Would you like to help hold Minnesota’s legislators accountable? In 2010, I helped to publicize candidates for public office through my public cable access show, “Constitutional Candidates”. While these candidates were not LPMN-endorsed, they had expressed support for limited government. About 60 candidates were interviewed in half-hour shows produced with Sue Jeffers, talk show host for FM 100.3 KTLK. None held office, and most had never been in office before. Nine of those interviewed won their election in November; a high percentage, considering the difficulty of winning against an incumbent.
I have placed the interviews for seven of these winners, all Republicans, on the YouTube site for the Libertarian Party of Minnesota. The individuals and the state or federal office that they now hold are listed below in no particular order:
Chip Cravaack | 8th Congressional District |
Dave Thompson | MN Senate District #36 |
Kurt Bills | MN House District #37B |
Glenn Gruenhagen | MN House District #25A |
Kathy Lohmer | MN House District #56A |
King Banaian | MN House District #15B |
Sondra Erickson | MN House District #16A |
As Libertarians, we need to hold people in elected office responsible for their actions. Those listed above need to be reminded of the promises that they made in the interviews. I also called the show “Constitutional Candidates” to emphasize the need to follow the Minnesota and US Constitutions.
If any of the above people represent you, take time to watch their interview. (Use the links below from the MN Secretary of State’s Office to find the areas they represent.) Then tell them your feelings about issues/legislation and how they are doing in your eyes.
