The LPMN made another outreach appearance in August, returning to the annual Vans Warped Tour music festival in Shakopee. An event featuring punk rock, thrash metal, and other alternative genres, the Vans Warped Tour attracted fans from throughout Minnesota and western Wisconsin. Volunteers had the opportunity to connect with many who already agree with our steadfast support for the freedom of self-expression and opposition to censorship.

Those enjoying their favorite music were primarily teens and young adults. Concertgoers were overwhelmingly libertarian, as shown by the quiz results in the photo. A total of 202 people took the World’s Smallest Political Quiz during the day, with the vast majority of quiz-takers scoring in the Libertarian Quadrant (top of the chart). The libertarian issues which received the strongest support were no censorship of the media or internet, no compulsory military draft, and no laws restricting sexual relations between consenting adults, with 75% in agreement with these positions. Strong support was also seen for ending the government’s doomed Social Security program and allowing each individual to choose their own retirement options, with 67% in agreement. Many signed up to learn more about libertarianism, took literature, or purchased pro-liberty bumperstickers.

Many thanks to the volunteers who made this a successful outreach event, and to those who’ve helped at other LPMN efforts this year.
