Homeschooling Perseveres Despite Pressure From The Left

Homeschooling is becoming an increasingly popular method of educating children as families move their children into a more conservative approach to education. Around 1.7 million children in the U.S. are in the homeschooling system and while there are many reasons, a resounding leftist approach to education is a major cause for many parents. The constant battle between liberty and enforcing restrictions is a tight war for libertarians who want to have a more decisive role in their children’s education.

How The Goals 2000 Agenda Came Into Play

Goals 2000 Educate America, while seemingly positive, only served to create an education system filled with the dogma of leftist ideology. For libertarians, the inability to believe, learn, and grow in a system that promoted a very skewed view of the democratic learning process, Goals 2000 was the final nail in the coffin. Perhaps one of the most disruptive effects of Goals 2000, was the recommendation that students have easier access to finance in order to pay for their education. Student loans, as it stands, contributes to the high household debt ratio that is crippling the nation at the moment. While a legacy of education was the goal, a legacy of constant debt recycling is the result.

Education In The Midst Of A Political And Technological Boom

There is no doubt that there has never been easier access to technology and the state of politics than right at this moment, and for homeschoolers, this is the ideal time to stem the flow of information in bite-sized chunks. The future could be much better or much worse, and the balance hangs in our ability to process all this information. For libertarians, the quest to escape the political sphere might not be possible, but there is surely a way to live beyond it. A safe and comfortable homeschool environment that stimulates a natural desire to learn about the world and everything in it, despite its shortcomings. For children, the comfort of a home environment cannot be understated as there is no better place to learn than one that is fun and familiar. For homeschoolers, it’s essential to provide children with a stimulating environment in which nurturing and education can flourish. The best part of a homeschool setup is that the educator will determine the level of exposure to technology and activities, as well as topics and research.

Quashing The Naysayers

One of the biggest arguments leftists tend to have against the homeschooling system, is that these students are not socially stimulated or equipped well enough for further education. Students such as Haley Schlitz from Texas proves that this theory is both unfounded and dangerous. At the tender age of sixteen, this dedicated teen has received offers from nine universities. Her choice, however, is the Southern Methodist University’s Dedman School of Law, making her the youngest student ever enrolled at this prestigious school.

While the left will always try to propagate their agenda, even going as far as promoting their ideology at grassroots levels, homeschoolers will always push back to ensure a well-balanced education that still meets conservative standards.
