Keegan Iversen was the LPMN’s candidate for State Auditor in 2014.  He quickly became known as “our hardest-working candidate”, logging many miles in his car as he traveled to meet Minnesotans across the state during his candidacy, including an extended trip through the Iron Range.  In October, he was injured in a serious motorcycle accident.

Mr Iversen is a dedicated husband and father of three young children. He’s also a veteran and was stationed in Basra, Iraq, at the time he decided to run for Minnesota State Auditor. Although a newcomer to the LPMN at the time, his hard work earned the respect of his Libertarian colleagues.

On October 7, he was seriously injured in a motorcycle accident while traveling through Fort Worth, Texas.  He sustained multiple injuries including broken bones, a collapsed lung, and traumatic brain injury.  Entering a coma, he was placed on a respirator for an extended time and is still hospitalized. Needless to say, the medical bills have piled up for his family.

His solid character and commitment to the cause drew a strong response after news of the tragedy.  His family has now learned what many longtime LPMN activists already know: that the Libertarian Party of Minnesota is more than just a political party; in some ways, we’re also a family.

In an event dubbed Kristmas for Keegan, former LPMN Chair David Arvidson and Metro Lakes Libertarians (CD5) affiliate leader Cindi Sharp organized a special event to aid Mr Iversen and his family.  In addition to family, friends, and acquaintences, dozens of party members came to show their support.  Among several other donors, photographer Beth Wittnebel donated her works to a silent auction, and Zavier Bicott hosted a cash bar.  All proceeds of each were given to the family of Keegan Iversen.  In total, $2100 was raised.

Additional thanks belong to Jonathan Liebfield as deejay, Joe McKenzie as emcee, Cara Schulz with cocktail-making, Red Bartholemew as Santa Claus, Rebekah Bradfield who brought coffee, Collin Daugherty who made the buttons, and to those who prepared the buffet dishes.  And to all others who contributed to the family of Keegan Iversen during their time of need!
