It was an unprecedented week. For the first time in state party history, the Libertarian Party of Minnesota caucused in every region of the state. The coordinated events were dubbed “Liberty Launch 2014” and the results are showing that liberty has indeed been launched!

From New Ulm to Fergus Falls, from Duluth to Minneapolis, Libertarians gathered across the state to meet their like-minded neighbors and choose local leaders. The week-long Liberty Launch efforts coordinated those gatherings during the early February caucus season, at a time when Minnesotans begin to think about politics.

Some caucuses saw large turnouts, while others were small, but all resulted in Libertarian activists and supporters across Minnesota gaining a new determination to build this consistently pro-liberty party into a statewide force.

LPMN Executive Director Andy Burns, who spearheaded the Liberty Launch caucus drive, remarked, “I would like to thank the local organizers and all the people who attended, it is really energizing to see Libertarians getting organized! I think we can unequivocally say ‘mission accomplished’ on this one.”

The new local leaders are now working to form regional affiliates, with the goals of providing focal points for local activism, generating news, and identifying more Libertarian candidates. The new affiliates will create a permanent Libertarian presence in every region and dramatically increase the ability of the LPMN to reach out to the public.

LPMN Vice Chair S.L. Malleck added, “As Libertarians, our goal is to restore the ability of every individual to make their own choices in their own lives, in all areas. Whether interested people might be coming from the Left and believe that civil liberties or personal freedom are their most important issues, or coming from the Right and want to see entrepreneurs creating opportunity in an open marketplace, everyone will find something to like about the Libertarian Party.”

The LPMN’s next major event will be its 2014 State Convention, known for drawing in liberty-minded speakers from across the state and nation. The convention will be held on April 26, with details yet to be announced.
