Hamline University violates own policy, risks 501(c)3 status by excluding Governor candidates from Debate

Hamline University is hosting a gubernatorial debate in St Paul on Sunday, October 19. In a stunning show of partisan favoritism and in violation of their own policy, the University has invited only two of the five candidates to participate. Only the Democratic and Republican candidates have been invited.

LPMN Weekly Message – Mining and the Environment

Those on the Iron Range understand the importance of mining, but many Minnesotans may not realize how significant this industry is in our state. This issue has been in the headlines due to the proposed PolyMet mine. Of course, the environment is frequently cited as a cause for concern, and we'll investigate these aspects in this article.

The Libertarian Party alone now offers a true alternative

Op-Ed by Chris Holbrook for Governor: It’s disappointing when an independent voice and former leader of the anti-establishment movement sells out and endorses the two-party establishment. WIINO (Was-Independent-In-Name-Only) Tom Horner has recently been trying to convince us that Jeff Johnson and his big government GOP solutions are what Minnesota needs. The opposite is true. Apparently, Libertarians are the only ones left to offer smaller-government solutions.

Hands off Angela Brown: Cannabis patients, caregivers, and Minnesota politicians call on prosecutor to drop charges

St. Paul -- On Sunday, Sept. 28, 23 politicians from six political parties released a petition demanding all charges be dropped against a Minnesota mom being prosecuted for providing care for her 15-year-old child, Trey, by treating his traumatic brain injury and related intractable pain with medical cannabis. Proceedings against Angela Brown are expected to begin in Montevideo, Minnesota, on Monday, Sept. 29. LPMN Weekly Message – How the Business Tax affects ordinary Minnesotans

The business tax doesn't usually generate much excitement. But it sure did this summer, when iconic Minnesota company Medtronic announced its intention to relocate their headquarters overseas. Is the business tax a "good" thing because most people don't pay it? If the business tax were eliminated, would it just benefit "the rich"? Would taxes have to rise for other people? And what of the government services funded by this tax? All of these questions and more will be investigated here.

Make MPR’s US Senate debates inclusive

We have preliminary information that while some at MPR were interested in having Libertarian US Senate candidate Heather Johnson in their debates, they are likely to revert to their protocol of only including candidates with "major party status". There are only 4 candidates in this race. The other three have major party status, one of which has been disavowed by their own party! "Whittling down the number of candidates" to the exclusion of 1 person is not the right thing to do.

LPMN Weekly Message – The Antidote to Poverty

The bad news comes daily over our TV screens, and we wonder what can be done about it. People in northern Iraq recruited by ISIS, an organization with substantial financial resources, to go out and brutalize their neighbors. People in a poor neighborhood, taking advantage of discontent with a police officer's actions in Ferguson Missouri, by looting their neighbors' businesses. Higher rates of violent crime in inner city areas, including north Minneapolis. There seems to be one common denominator to all of these. And that's the problem of POVERTY.
