It depends what you mean by “legal”

No, marijuana is NOT legal in Minnesota. When the law is so restrictive that less than 300 patients qualify in the entire state, and some who do still choose the black market, it's not legal. At the rate our "Legalize It" shirts were flying off the shelves at the State Fair, many Minnesotans get this. The DFL and GOP legislators do not.

Libertarian Party responds to new Gallup Poll

Monday, Gallup published a new poll showing that 49% of Americans think that "the federal government poses an immediate threat to the rights and freedoms of ordinary citizens." This is up from 30% in 2003. Gallup also asked participants, "In what ways do you see the government posing an immediate threat to rights and freedoms of its citizens?"

Fair-goers crave Freedom on a Stick

Another State Fair has come to a close, and the 2015 version of the Great Minnesota Get-Together was a huge success for the Libertarian Party of Minnesota. Our “Freedom on a Stick” slogan was extremely popular, with hundreds of people taking photos of our banner. Our booth had nearly four times the traffic compared to last year, and we had over 1,500 people sign up to be on our information contact list.

Libertarians versus Donald Trump

Nicholas Sarwark, Chair of the Libertarian National Committee issued the following statement: Libertarianism is the idea that you have the right to pursue happiness in any way you wish as long as it doesn't hurt people or take their stuff. We support the fundamental rights of all people, all of the time. We do not denigrate or disparage any group. We respect the humanity of all people.

School Shopping

Students have returned to class, and another back-to-school shopping season has come to an end. While parents have nearly endless choices to be made on school supplies, clothing, etc. the most important aspect of going back to school is still not a choice for most families – which school their child will attend.

Time to Fire the Career Politicians

When Donald Trump announced his candidacy for President in mid-June, people thought it would be a briefly entertaining publicity stunt that was meant to garner some free advertising for his next reality show or business deal. Who could have imagined that two months later he would continue to lead the polling numbers among the potential GOP candidates?

Minneapolis Libertarians speak out against bans; city delays vote on plastic bags

Libertarians in Minneapolis have had enough of the bans! In an appeal sent to LPMN members and supporters in the city last week, residents were encouraged to contact the city councillors in their wards to ask them to support freedom of consumer choice by voting against a proposal to criminalize plastic bags. As a result, the City Council did not vote on the proposal last week as had been expected.

Why Are Libertarians Different? Intent vs. Outcome

We may look the same. We may use the same language. We put our pants on one leg at a time. Most of us, anyway. We certainly have a unique way of thinking though. Of course, our first instinct is not to suggest that “there ought to be a law.” That is the beginning of how we differ from non-libertarians.
