The event kicks off with the annual LPMN members-only business session from 9 am ’til noon to elect our local leadership, executive committee, judicial committee, approve any bylaws or platform changes, and to select our delegates who will represent us at the LP National Presidential Nominating Convention. Candidates for LPMN Leadership positions may announce in advance or from the Convention floor. For candidates who announce in advance, if you notify the Convention Committee of your candidacy by February 28, 2020, you will receive the following benefits:
- Posting of your candidacy information to the LPMN website’s State Convention page
- Availability of one email blast to LPMN members with information about your candidacy, background, goals, etc. (email subject to review and approval by the Convention Committee)
All candidates are responsible for distributing any literature about themselves to the Convention attendees on the day of the Convention. Candidates will be allowed time to speak to the Convention delegates according to time allotments determined by the Convention Committee.
If you would like to pre-announce your candidacy for any of these positions, please send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org with your name, the position you are seeking, and a paragraph or two about your candidacy. This email needs to be submitted by February, 2020 in order to be included in the advanced communication materials.
Platform Change Proposals
At each LPMN State Convention, Platform changes may be proposed and voted on by the eligible delegates in attendance. Modifications to the Platform need a 2/3 majority of “Aye” votes in order to pass; an abstention from voting on a Platform change is the equivalent of a “Nay” vote. The persons who submit Platform change proposals will be responsible for presenting the proposed changes to the Convention delegates.
If you have Platform changes you would like to propose, you may submit them in advance or from the Convention floor. For Platform changes announced in advance, if you submit your change to the Convention Committee by February 28, 2020, your proposal will receive the following benefits:
- Posting of the proposed Platform change to the LPMN website’s State Convention page
- Inclusion of the proposed Platform change in an email blast to LPMN members in advance of the Convention
- Distribution of the proposed Platform change in hard-copy form to the State Convention attendees
- Overhead presentation of the proposed Platform change during the Platform discussion
If you would like to submit a proposed Platform change, please send an email to email@example.com with your name, the Platform component you are proposing to change, and the updated content of the affected Platform component. This email needs to be submitted by February 28, 2020 in order to be included in the advanced communication materials.
