Libertarian Party of Minnesota Fights Back to Protect Private Property Rights in Hennepin County

This smoking ban is not just about smoking or about public health. The issue is about your freedom and the loss of private property rights. Year after year both Republicans and Democrats continue to create more regulations, trample on our rights and tell us what is for the "greater good" for our bodies and our pocketbooks.

Libertarians believe that citizens and property owners should make these decisions, instead of a few politicians. Before the smoking ban, hundreds of restaurants had rules that didn't allow smoking in their establishments because they wanted to attract non-smoking customers. Now that the ban is in effect smokers AND non-smokers are going to businesses in Saint Paul, or other other cities where smoking is allowed. This is unfair to the businesses with the smoking ban. The ban is clearly not working.

The ban also diverts our police away from real crimes like murder, rape, and theft. Police should be finding real criminals instead of non-violent smokers.

Only the Libertarian Party of Minnesota has stood 100% against these smoking bans and higher taxes of "fees" on smoking, based on principle, not politics.

Sue JeffersLibertarian Party Member Sue Jeffers has been a major force in our efforts to protect our property rights. Sue is the restaurant owner of Stub & Herbs in Minneapolis. She has been at the forefront fighting the smoking bans and excessive business regulations for several years. She has spoken to the Minneapolis and Bloomington City Councils, hosted radio shows on AM1500, has received press attention with the Star Tribune, Pioneer Press, KARE11, KSTP 5, WCCO, FOX 9, MPR, MN Daily, because of her activism against the smoking ban.

She and over a hundred concerned citizens recently appeared at the Hennepin County Commissioners meeting on November 15th, and provided information on the loss of jobs, and the general effect on business. Progress is being made.

Sue continues to fight the smoking ban and needs your help. Contact her with any questions or simply show your support by sending her an email. If we are organized, we can and we will change the smoking ban.
