Mark your calendars! The Libertarian Parties of Minnesota and Wisconsin are teaming up to hold a Joint State Convention in April. The goal is to organize a large event which can attract the public as well as entertain and energize our members! In addition to business matters conducted by each state party, the convention will offer people in both states the chance to meet the 2012 Libertarian presidential candidates and hear distinguished Libertarian speakers.

LPMN LogoLibertarians have seen tremendous publicity from Congressman Ron Paul’s libertarian-minded candidacy and Governor Gary Johnson’s switch to the LP. As usual, there is widespread discontent with the Democrats and Republicans, but many are finally starting to realize that neither party is capable of leading America in the right direction. Libertarian officials in both states are answering the public’s call for an alternative by coordinating a major event which can showcase the libertarian movement and demonstrate how libertarian ideals can steer America towards liberty, peace, and prosperity.

LPWI LogoThe event will be Saturday, April 14, 2012. It will be held in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, just 1½ hours from the Twin Cities along I-94. Eau Claire is midway between the population centers of eastern Minnesota and southeastern Wisconsin, encouraging the maximum number of people from both states to attend. The public will be welcome.

This will be a chance for many to meet the Libertarian presidential candidates. If you’ve had enough of hearing Republicans and Democrats debate how much more of your freedom they “need” to take away, come hear our Libertarian candidates discuss how much freedom should be given back! And you needn’t hope for just a handshake or quick photo. In the Libertarian Party, you are able to personally meet and ask questions of our candidates.

Invited are the three apparent front-runners for the Libertarian presidential nomination:

The first portion of the convention will comprise of the LPMN and LPWI conducting business in separate areas. The second portion will be open to all who attend, featuring presentations by the candidates and speakers. Other LP presidential candidates may be present as well. More details will be forthcoming.

An important note: If you wish to be a voting delegate, LPMN bylaws require you to be a state party member at least 60 days prior to the convention. All LPMN members who attend will be official delegates. During the business portion, attending as a delegate gives you the power to:

  • Vote on proposed platform and bylaws changes.
  • Vote on resolutions and other proposals which may be presented.
  • Vote on nomination or endorsement of candidates in local and state races.
  • Seek nomination as a Libertarian candidate in local and state races.
  • Vote on selection of delegates to represent the LPMN at the Libertarian National Convention in Las Vegas, Nevada. (The National Convention will held May 2-6, 2012, where the Libertarian Party’s presidential nominee will be chosen.)
  • Be eligible to be selected as a delegate to the National Convention, which you are qualified for as a member of either the LPMN or the National LP.

If you consider yourself a libertarian but haven’t yet joined, or if you’re a member of the National LP but not the LPMN, now is your chance to join and have a say in the direction of your state party! If you wish to be a delegate, you must join by February 13. Here’s an easy link to join the LPMN. If you have any questions regarding your membership, you may email us at info@lpmn.org. However, if you’re just curious for now, you’ll still be able to observe the proceedings and hear the candidates and speakers. Those who aren’t members will still be welcome to attend.

Hope to see you on April 14! Convention details to follow soon.
